Rapid shutdown devices must meet the requirements of the National Electric Code (NEC) section 690.12, which requires that PV systems be shut down within 10 seconds of a fire or other emergency. This is done by using a switch and/or circuit breaker that can be activated remotely or automatically in response to a signal from a fire alarm or other emergency system.
